MANAGING DIRECTOR
Job Description
CABD, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to implementing and advancing the artistic vision of Camille A. Brown. Camille A. Brown & Dancers (CABD) creates and presents performances, offers dance engagement activities, and investigates historical and contemporary cultural, personal, and social justice issues through the art of dance theater, in order to provide a multi-faceted platform for sharing and building understanding of and appreciation for the African- American experience and fostering interaction and dialogue among diverse communities in our hometown of NYC, across the country, and globally.
Our mission manifests itself through our national & international touring and our education & engagement platform, “Every Body Move.” In addition, CABD works alongside the independent choreographic theater career of Camille A. Brown (CAB).
The Managing Director provides leadership and direction to key organizational activities including finance and administration, operations, marketing, and development. She/He has principal oversight for the day-to-day operations and is responsible for promoting a collaborative and open work environment with high performance standards. The Managing Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
General Management
Provide oversight and direction of day-to-day operations for CABD in collaboration with CAB brand.
Work with CABD Board, team leaders and staff to set goals, track, and communicate outcomes to key stakeholders.
Supervise CABD contractual negotiations and monitor contractual compliance with artists, vendors, contracted workers, etc.
Approve and supervise all CABD staffing and/or staff changes including consultants and part-time labor.
Represent the company externally, to peer organizations, and the public at large.
Operations/Human Resources
Continue to establish organizational practices and policies with company growth.
Secure and/or maintain various insurances for company operations and future employees (i.e. general liability, workers’ comp, etc.).
Annual evaluations with staff.
Finance
Work closely with the CABD Board & Development Manager in planning and implementing annual budgets and earned income goals.
Develop and work with staff leadership to track budgets for all CABD activities.
Manage payroll and oversee submission of all invoices/receipts for CABD expenditures by staff leadership.
Work with CABD financial provider (ArtsPool) to ensure accurate financial records
Marketing/PR
Work closely with Communications Team to contribute ideas to annual marketing plan and ensure implementation of such ideas via printed and electronic collateral/promotional creations.
Work closely with CAB/CABD Publicist to secure press opportunities and brand sponsorships for CAB and CABD.
Education
Work closely with Education Manager to support the impact of CABD education platform locally and on tour.
Secure academic and dance organization partnerships to re-stage company repertory
Performances & Touring
Oversee Company Manager & Production Team.
Work closely with Company Agent(s) to secure and coordinate new touring opportunities both domestically and internationally.
Coordinate with Commercial Agent regarding choreographic to increase choreographic opportunities for Artistic Director outside of concert dance.
Development/Fundraising
Oversee Development & Fundraising Staff.
Oversee creation and implementation of annual development plan and work closely with Development & Fundraising Staff on project budgets, and reporting for specific grant related activities.
Review and provide support to Development & Fundraising Staff in respect to grant submissions, donor prospect meetings.
Attend institutional and individual donor cultivation meetings.
Assist Development Manager with special fundraising and cultivation event planning (i.e. galas, open rehearsals, dinners, parties, etc.) and attend all such events.
Board Relations
Serve as Board liaison and provide administrative support to CABD Board.
Work with the Board of Directors to create Board prospect list, cultivate, recruit new Board members and monitor stewardship.
Visioning
Develop strategic plan with Board and staff leadership and monitor plan progress.
Develop and assist in implementation future capital projects for the company and facilitate commercial opportunities for Artistic Director.
Foster new and ongoing relationships and partnerships (i.e. artists, sponsors, vendors, donors, community partners, etc.) for the advancement of the CABD brand.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
7+ years experience in management or leadership positions overseeing growing & multi- faceted organization;
Excellent time management, organizational, supervisory, and creative problem solving skills;
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and on a team with grace;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and various social media platforms;
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and/or special events as needed, as well as tour domestically and in some cases internationally with the company;
Access to a personal computer and ability to travel as needed with this equipment.
Compensation
Compensation commensurate with experience.
